Fear

This is for a photo prompt for the 100-words Flash #FridayFictioneers. If you would like to join us, come to http://madisonwoods.wordpress.com/.   I've managed to do this week's story in 64-words. Yay me!

Fear

Fear.

This is what grips me when I see the marbled sphere. Not perfectly round but chipped - worn, its colors lost to age and decay.  Breath quickens as it rolls - tumbling, bouncing over the dents of my scarred wooden table, traveling its long journey towards me to bump against my hand.

Fear.

Not because of a simple marble.

Fear.

Because I am alone.

  1. The presense of the unknown coming straight at you is highlighted by it happening when you are alone, which that in istelf, can be the moment where fear cripples a person the most. (and you say you can't do descriptions,,, pfft)

  2. Mahjira,

Have you ever seen the opening scene of Marathon Man? If not, do so and wait for it, wait....

Very nicely rendered portrait of Fear.

    Aloha,

  3. This felt like a poem to me (one I could actually understand! lol), free and lyrical. I love how some people can accomplish that with their words.

Thanks for sharing this, Mahjira. :)

  4. Yes, poetry is how it sounded to me, too. I'll bet you could do this one nicely as spoken word.

Have fun with your family and without your net connection - it's good to get away from it for a while, but I hate it when I have to until I'm free of the anxiety, lol.
